How to Cook Idli in a 6 in 1 Ambiano Electric Cooker: Step-by-Step Guide

Idli, a popular South Indian dish, is a savory rice cake that is traditionally steamed in a special idli cooker or pressure cooker. However, with the advent of modern kitchen appliances like the 6 in 1 Ambiano Electric Cooker, making idli has become a lot easier and more convenient. This versatile cooker, similar to the Instant Pot, is a multi-functional appliance that can be used to steam, sauté, slow cook, and more. In this article, we will guide you through the step-by-step process of cooking idli in a 6 in 1 Ambiano Electric Cooker.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Idli rice
  • 1 cup Urad dal (split black lentils)
  • 1 teaspoon Fenugreek seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Water as required

Preparation of Idli Batter

Firstly, soak the idli rice, urad dal, and fenugreek seeds separately in water for at least 4-5 hours. After soaking, grind the urad dal and fenugreek seeds together until it forms a smooth paste. Next, grind the idli rice until it is coarsely ground. Mix the ground urad dal and rice together, add salt to taste, and let it ferment overnight.

Cooking Idli in the Ambiano Electric Cooker

Step 1: Preheat the Cooker

Turn on the Ambiano Electric Cooker and select the ‘Steam’ function. Allow it to preheat for a few minutes.

Step 2: Grease the Idli Moulds

While the cooker is preheating, grease the idli moulds with a little oil to prevent the idlis from sticking.

Step 3: Pour the Batter

Once the moulds are greased, pour the fermented idli batter into each mould, filling only up to 3/4th of the mould to allow space for the idlis to rise.

Step 4: Place the Moulds in the Cooker

Place the filled idli moulds in the Ambiano Electric Cooker. Ensure that there is enough water in the cooker for steaming but not so much that it touches the bottom of the idli moulds.

Step 5: Steam the Idlis

Close the lid of the cooker and set the timer for 10-12 minutes. Once the timer goes off, let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid.

Step 6: Remove the Idlis

After the pressure has released, open the lid and carefully remove the idli moulds. Let them cool for a few minutes before demoulding the idlis with a wet spoon.

And there you have it – soft and fluffy idlis ready to be served with sambar and chutney. Cooking idli in a 6 in 1 Ambiano Electric Cooker is not only easy but also efficient, making it a great option for those who love this South Indian delicacy.
